چکیده

Citation: Schulz JM, Redgrave P and Reynolds JNJ (2015) Corrigendum: Cortico-striatal spike-timing dependent plasticity after activation of subcortical pathways. The arrangement of the panels in Figure 4 of the article by Schulz et al. (2010) is incorrect. The order of the panels A and B in Figure 4 was erroneously reversed, so that the graphs do not match the figure legend and the references in the text. Here, we provide the original figure with the correct panel arrangement. Cortico-Striatal Spike-Timing Dependent Plasticity After Activation of Subcortical Pathways

Cortico-striatal spike-timing dependent plasticity (STDP) is modulated by dopamine in vitro. The present study investigated STDP in vivo using alternative procedures for modulating dopaminergic inputs. Postsynaptic potentials (PSP) were evoked in intracellularly recorded spiny neurons by electrical stimulation of the contralateral motor cortex. PSPs often consisted of up to three distinct compo...

Spike timing dependent plasticity: mechanisms, significance, and controversies

Long-term modification of synaptic strength is one of the basic mechanisms of memory formation and activity-dependent refinement of neural circuits. This idea was purposed by Hebb to provide a basis for the formation of a cell assembly. Repetitive correlated activity of pre-synaptic and post-synaptic neurons can induce long-lasting synaptic strength modification, the direction and extent of whi...

A New Framework for Cortico-Striatal Plasticity: Behavioural Theory Meets In Vitro Data at the Reinforcement-Action Interface

Operant learning requires that reinforcement signals interact with action representations at a suitable neural interface. Much evidence suggests that this occurs when phasic dopamine, acting as a reinforcement prediction error, gates plasticity at cortico-striatal synapses, and thereby changes the future likelihood of selecting the action(s) coded by striatal neurons. But this hypothesis faces ...

Dopamine receptor activation is required for corticostriatal spike-timing-dependent plasticity.

Single action potentials (APs) backpropagate into the higher-order dendrites of striatal spiny projection neurons during cortically driven "up" states. The timing of these backpropagating APs relative to the arriving corticostriatal excitatory inputs determines changes in dendritic calcium concentration. The question arises to whether this spike-timing relative to cortical excitatory inputs can...
